Values
- Equity. Fair, impartial, even-handed.
- Reciprocity. Give and take, mutual exchange of advantages and privileges.
- Trust. Faith and confidence in our collaboration.
Guiding Principles
- Autonomy. Independent board-governed Alberta public colleges that offer the Practical Nurse program within our mandate and region.
- Decision making. Consensus preferred; however, there is provision for mediation.
- Pooling of resources. Specific contributions to the Curriculum Commons from each college.
- Problem solving. Dialogue and consensus with provision for mediation.
- Congeniality and collegiality. Needed for cooperation and collaboration.
- Co-equal partners. Joint investment and ownership, shared risk, no institution dominates, shared power.
- Teamwork. Complimentary of skills, efforts, and roles.
- Trust. Confidence in our collective capacity.
- Transparency. Inclusivity, information sharing, and shared vision.
- Funding framework. Transparency and incentives.
- Joint planning. For long-term sustainability, evergreening.
Themes
Several themes emerged within the Project Steering Committee over the two-year project.
- Trust. Enabled through regular face-to-face meetings of the Project Steering Committee.
- Control. Consensus developed regarding the operational definition of curriculum collaboration. The committee recognized the need for curriculum quality assurance and control processes that would sustain the collaboration over time.
- Shared vision. The Steering Committee developed a shared vision as defined in the Memorandum of Understanding that was developed to guide the project.
